Privileged lives and public cameos

The corgis enjoyed pampered routines: daily walks with the Queen (a moment captured by Annie Leibovitz), special meals described by former royal chef Darren McGrady, stockings at Sandringham and a bespoke corgi room. Their image even appeared on a 2002 Golden Jubilee coin and in a playful cameo during the 2012 Olympic opening film.

Incidents, later choices and where they are now

Not without controversy — a 1968 nip at a postman and a 1999 report of a footman giving dogs alcohol made headlines. The Queen stopped adding corgis in the mid-2010s to avoid leaving any behind. In 2021 she accepted puppies and later, after her passing on Sept. 8, 2022, she was survived by three dogs: Lissy (a cocker spaniel) and corgis Sandy and Muick. Sandy and Muick were placed in the care of Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson at Marsh Farm on the Sandringham estate, while Lissy stayed with trainer Ian Openshaw, according to reports.
