What sparked the inquiry?

Sen. Patty Murray and Sen. Christopher Murphy sent a letter to Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin on August 12, alleging DHS acquired 12 new aircraft in the last year, including five described as luxury jets. Lawmakers assert nearly $200 million in Coast Guard funds were used to buy two Gulfstream G700 business jets.

Who benefited?

The senators say one Gulfstream G650 was leased to the FBI for Director Kash Patel’s travel and a second G650 is being retrofitted for Border Czar Tom Homan and other undisclosed DHS officials. They also say DHS already owned two Gulfstreams prior to the purchases.
