The fleet details

Among the acquisitions is a Boeing 737-8 MAX business jet reported to include a bedroom, shower, kitchen, bar and flat-screen TVs; senators were later told the bedroom would be removed and that jet loaned to the Department of Defense for cabinet-level use. Seven additional Boeing 737s were also obtained; DHS says four will support congressional delegations and three will be used for ICE deportation flights.

What the senators want

Murray and Murphy demanded contracts, retrofit costs, lifetime operation and maintenance estimates, flight logs listing passengers by name and title, origins and destinations, and the purpose of each trip. They also requested the FBI’s G650 lease and the DoD agreement covering the 737-8 MAX, giving DHS until August 26 to produce the records and questioning whether the purchases had proper congressional authorization.
