Confused and partying because she didn’t know what else to do, Imbruglia hit a turning point when her father rang to ask when she’d get a job. Embarrassed, she refocused on music — a change that led to the 1997 smash "Torn," which found early play on KROQ and broke in the US.

Speaking on Begin Again with Davina McCall on Aug. 13, the 51-year-old reflected on gratitude, fear and longevity. She’s continued to make music and will release her seventh album, Algorithm, on Sept. 4.
